Nirvana's Unplugged set shifts attention toward the grain of Kurt Cobain's voice and the strength of the songs beneath the distortion. Acoustic guitars, restrained percussion and sympathetic accompaniment give familiar material a different weight. The covers feel integral to the performance, opening a window onto the band's influences and the emotional range of its quieter playing.
