Load finds Metallica stretching its riff-driven writing into slower grooves, bluesy textures and more open-ended songs. This expanded edition connects the finished album with recordings from its development and live life, offering different perspectives on the material. The added context makes the band's rhythmic weight and melodic experiments easier to hear as parts of the same project.
