Ultraviolence lets hazy guitars, roomy drums and aching vocal melodies carry its troubled romantic atmosphere. Lana Del Rey stretches phrases across slow-burning arrangements, moving from intimate murmurs to sweeping choruses. The shifting pulse of West Coast and the smoky drift of Brooklyn Baby give the album its particular balance of weight and suspension.
