Bassist and producer Petter Eldh expands Koma Saxo's core quintet with vocalist Sofia Jernberg.
Guests include Lucy Railton, Maria Reich, Kit Downes, and accordionist Kiki Eldh.
Fourteen compact tracks connect Swedish folk references with forceful improvisation and cut-up production.
For fans of: Petter Eldh, Y-OTIS, and adventurous contemporary European jazz.
Koma West takes Koma Saxo's restless jazz language into a wider world of voices, strings, and studio construction. Eldh keeps the music in motion, compressing substantial ideas into sharply edited pieces where an acoustic gesture can become part of a new rhythmic pattern. Jernberg's voice adds another flexible, expressive instrument to the ensemble.
The album draws on Eldh's memories of Sweden's west coast, with folk-song traces appearing inside its modern arrangements. "Koma Kaprifol" offers a particularly vivid entry point, while "Närhet" highlights the group's lyrical side. Christian Lillinger's drums and the three-saxophone frontline keep the expanded palette connected to the band's energetic core.
