Christmas in the Heart brings Bob Dylan's weathered voice into direct contact with familiar seasonal songs. The performances move between brisk, communal celebration and more tender readings, with arrangements that draw on older popular and roots-music traditions. That combination gives the album an unusual character: affectionate, slightly rough around the edges and fully committed to the material.
